Ski represenation prepares at Kopaonik

Ski team of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Army is finalizing a ten-day preparations on Kopaonik for the 52nd Military World Championships to be held in Slovenia on 19 to 24 of March.

According to State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence and Chief of the Serbian delegation at the CISM, Zoran Jeftic, the system of defense has had more opportunities to work on the development of winter sports in the last three years, as the army has been engaged in intense winter competitions within CISM.

- For competitions such as the elite sports world to participate and each of our place in the top ten is a phenomenal result. But we are not only important competition. The emphasis is rather on the development of sport in general and physical preparation - said Secretary of State Jeftic while visiting skiers, noting that the importance of physical fitness is greater than since full professionalization of the army. He also pointed out that the selection based on quality has given a good team, and each contestant is, above all, a good officer or a cadet, which is the most important prerequisite in order to become part of the skiing elite.

- Each of them is the ambassador of our army and the country abroad and they are all proudly wearing T-shirts which read "Serbia". They have the opportunity to present image of the Serbian Army in the world - said Secretary Jeftic recaling that in last year's event in Sarajevo drew attention to himself as a good placement, and a fantastic atmosphere which they spread.

Our women's team in the Alpine giant slalom discipline comprises Radmila Djuric, cadets Jelena Jerkic and Miljan Mitrovic, while the colors of Serbia in the same discipline, will be defended by the men’s team: captain Daniel Pesic, Lieutenant Darko Jeremic, cadet Milos Sumarac and reserve soldier, Vladimir Mandic. Nordic skiing will be held in Pokljuci, and Ksenija Bubnjevic in the race for 10 kilometers and Sergeant Igor Vukovic to 15 kilometers will represent Serbia in a cross country discipline.
