Interview with the chancellor of the Defense University general Miodrag Jevtic, PhD



OFFICERS STUDY BY BOLOGNA PROGRAM

A total of 21 degree program have been accredited, while five-study programs are in the process of accreditation . – The University currently has about 250 professors and teaching assistants

The youngest, eighth public university in Serbia today celebrates one year of its existence. We talked the first chancellor of the University of Lt. Gen. prof. Dr Miodrag Jevtic about what it is to study at the University of Defense or the Military Academy of Medicine and the Academy, the admission to the study program and the women in the military.

Cadets in our university have everything what makes student life at any other university, but they probably have to work a little harder, says the chancellor. Many issues that often burden the students such as accommodation, food, job after graduation are something they do not need to worry about, and the Bologna Declaration is an integral part of the curriculum.

Why was the University of Defense established
These universities exist in all major countries of the world, as well as in several countries in the region. Military education activities in our region have a very long tradition and through decades we have created exceptional staff. At one time we recognized the need for integration of the quality of our well-equipped laboratories and institutes, but also preserved the professional and scientific potential. Management of the Ministry of Defense made the decision and gave full support to this important national project. The defense system is the ultimate act rationally, because he owned more than 75 percent of teaching staff for the accreditation of study programs.

How many students and professors are there, are you satisfied with the premises, staff, and cadets who are the biggest problems
At this stage we are satisfied with the conditions and the results of our cadets. We have 21 accredited degree study programs, while five programs are in the accreditation process. At the University there are 250 teachers and teaching assistants. At the undergraduate level, University of Defence, we have admitted 846 cadets, 196 of whom are girls and 10 students who are civilians.

Can women be as successful as men?
The mere fact that now we have about 20 percent of girls indicates our European commitments and in terms of gender equality. Our cadets very conscientiously and responsibly perform tasks that are the realistic expectations of the Ministry of Defence that they get a strong grip and great officers in the near future.

Competition for admission of candidates for admission to the Military Academy of Medicine and the ongoing, open until the end of March, how many candidates expect and how much space is provided?
It is planned that the five programs of study at the Military Academy this year enrolled 185 male and female cadets, and the School of Medicine, 30th VMA them Experiences from earlier talking about the great interest and apply for each place six to 10 candidates.

Why is one of the requirements for that candidates should not be in a marriage or live out of wedlock, and even have to submit proof of this, and of not having children?
The army, above all, respects the family, and this requirement is only so that members can give their maximum and be prepared for all three missions, mostly to defend homeland. However, it requires full commitment and a lot of energy. A military unit is definitely one big family where a person matures and, of course, when the basic training is over and necessary conditions created family and children are more than desirable.

What is the difference between the previous and new ways of training military doctors
Military organization needs doctors for certain specific training, emergency situations. In previous years, the defense system of annual scholarships to dozens of medical students in medical school orientation, but few of them back into the system and paying jobs and tasks of military doctors. With this mind, and the fact that MMA has a very powerful teaching personnel, and other facilities, it was decided to establish a School of Medicine, VMA, which this year recorded the fourth class cadets. Brilliant to have children, the best of the best high-school benches were chosen for this call and now they are at an early age to learn and accept that the profession of their choice, it is their house and the system, they have secured a job after graduation, guided unimagined possibilities and career advancement.

How do you rate the work of the University in the first year of operation
Constituted bodies and the bodies of the university, make all normative acts and is equipped with a permanent seat for the chancery. It is not up to me to judge the work of the university, but I can say that our dedication and enthusiasm sparked a positive reaction within the system, the academic community of our country, and the general public.
