Marking the day of St Sava in the Military High School



Military High School in Belgrade, as well as other schools throughout Serbia, today marked the patron day of schools- St. Sava’s day, in honor of St. Sava, the founder of education and the first Serbian archbishop.

The ceremony, which professors and students of this school is traditionally organized by the Sports High School students, was attended by State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Igor Jovicic, head of the Military Academy, Brigadier General Mladen Vuruna the College, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of Serbia, representatives of the Ministry of Education, students, citizens and guests.

Liturgy was served by Bishop Atanasije Rakita, a deputy principal of the Military High School Lt. Col. Dragan Jovanovic and Director of Sports High School Vesna Muratovic Drobac who all ceremoniously broke the cake baked to honor the saint.

Bishop Atanasije, vicar of the Serbian Patriarch, noted that the two most important processes for the success of both individuals and entire peoples are care and growth.

- We must cherish what we have inherited from our ancestors, their economic and biological potential, but also a spiritual treasure. However, it is not enough. But our population must grown. The number of our people must grow to survive and this is what reminds us of this holy day, said Bishop remining that St. Sava taught us to appreciate knowledge and virtue.

Lieutenant-Colonel Jovanovic called on students and other to follow in the footsteps of that great founder.

- The heritage of St Sava obliges us to preserve and develop the right human values, as they saints possessed them, Jovanovic said, stressing that only completely honest, courageous, fair, and persistent faith can enable us to fulfill the tasks entrusted to us.
Following the ceremony, the Military High School choir performed the hymn to St. Sava, after which the guests had the opportunity to enjoy the display of Saint Sava Academy, which was jointly prepared by the students of two schools with the support of their teachers.
