"ODBRANA" Magazine in its 152nd issue of 15 January features



The best and the most promising members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces will have the opportunity also this year to qualify for performing the highest duties in the defence system by additional education and training at home and abroad and thus significantly contribute to the further development of our military.

The theme of this issue is the neutrality in the 21st century. For the security of Serbia, the best choice is active cooperation on the international scene, particularly within the Partnership for Peace programme and joint activities to combat threats of terrorism. Cooperation with the European Union in the field of security is the encouragement for its European integration aspirations, and way to show its responsibility for peace.

In his interview to ODBRANA, Brigadier General Milosav Simovic, Commander of the Fourth Army Brigade, points out that the command and working with people is art. – All the people are at the same time equal and different. It takes all sorts to make a world. People should be both reviled and praised. Everybody should be treated equally but also in a different way and you should bring out the best in them in a special way. A young officer, and not only young, every officer, must not and should not run away from boots, troops and the army – says General.

The vision of the defence system development is addressed in this issue by Major General Bozidar Forca. He states that the improvement of the achieved level of the defence system development includes further professionalization of the Armed Forces, new educational system, modernization and development of arms and military equipment, adequate infrastructure, promotion of international military cooperation and improving the standard of the members of the Armed Forces and defence system.

At any time, the "Red Berets" of the Special Brigade of the Serbian Armed Forces are ready and capable to face the most demanding tasks in front of them. ODBRANA tells the story about their fighting arsenal.

This year again, the Public Relations Department and "Odbrana" Media Centre awarded traditional journalism and sports awards, on the occasion of the Day of the Centre. The Public Relations Department awarded the Special journalism award of the Ministry of Defence for the best promotional television programme to Veselin Grozdanic and Maca Pop Cenic from the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation for the realization of direct broadcasting of the promotion ceremony for new officers of the Serbian Armed Forces, in September last year. The jury awarded the "Ivan Markovic" journalism award to a journalist of Serbian Broadcasting Corporation, Branko Stankovic for the "Squaring the Circle" programme on the Fourth Army Brigade. The best athlete of the Serbian Armed Forces for the last year is Sergeant Dejan Vukojevic, a shooter, from the Army Training Centre, and the most successful sports team was the ski team of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.

Defence Attaché of the French Republic in Belgrade, Colonel Fabris Duda points out that the cooperation between French and Serbian Ministries of Defence is on an excellent level. Serbia is a country which cooperates with France the most in the region, and the additional impetus was given by the agreement that was signed by ministers of the two countries in Paris, in April last year.

Belgrade will soon get a submarine. A midget submarine class P-911, with displacement of 100 tons and 20 meters long, is most likely to be set on the banks of the Danube, near the confluence of the Sava, or at Kalemegdan.
