The 72nd Special Operations Brigade (the 72nd SpecOps Bde) is specially organised, trained and equipped tactical-level unit, intended for preparation, organisation and execution of special operations, as well as intelligence-reconnaissance combat activities, on ground, in the water/underwater and in the airspace behind enemy lines, at the frontline and its own rear, using not only the vertical manoeuvre, but other types of manoeuvre, as well. The unit is capable of accomplishing its tasks independently or in cooperation with other forces of the Republic of Serbia defence system.

The 72nd Special Operations Brigade comprises the 72nd SpecOps Bde Command, the Special Operations Security and Support Battalion “Orlovi” (Serbian for eagles), the Special Operations Battalion “Grifoni” (Serbian for griffins), the Special Operations Battalion “Sokolovi” (Serbian for falcons), a logistics company and a Military Police platoon.

The Command and units of the 72nd SpecOps Bde are deployed at the Rastko Nemanjić barracks in Pančevo, and the unit marks January 27 – Savindan (Serbian for Saint Sava’s Day), as its Day and Slava (Serbian for saint patron’s day), thus commemorating January 27, 1993, when the members of the then 72nd Spetsnaz Brigade successfully carried out their first combat task.

Members of the 72nd SpecOps Bde sub-echelon are equipped with T-18 ballistic protective gear sets and are armed with 5.56 mm FN SCAR automatic rifles and 9 mm GLOCK semi-automatic pistols.
