63rd Parachute Brigade Sub-Echelon

The 63rd Parachute Brigade (the 63rd PARA Bde) of the Serbian Armed Forces is intended for intelligence gathering and execution of special forces operations in the operational and strategic depth of enemy, using the vertical manoeuvre. The organisational structure of the 63rd PARA Bde is adjusted to the assigned mission and comprises the Brigade Command and parachute companies. The 63rd PARA Bde Command and units are deployed at the military airbase “Narednik-pilot Mihajlo Petrović” in Niš.
The first parachute battalion, whose tradition is cherished by the 63rd PARA Bde paratroopers, was founded with the aid of Allied Forces on October 14, 1944, at a military base near Bari, Italy. The unit marks October 14th as its Day and Slava of the Shroud of the Blessed Virgin Mary, respectively.
For the courage shown and heroic deeds performed during combat missions, the 63rd PARA Bde was decorated by the Order of the People’s Hero in 1999.
Members of the 63rd PARA Bde sub-echelon are equipped with T-18 ballistic protective gear sets and are armed with 5.56 mm Heckler&Koch GT-36KV automatic rifles, while the commander and sergeant major are armed with 9 mm GLOCK semi-automatic pistols.
