Bilateral Talks on Defence Cooperation with Romania




Bilateral talks with representatives of the Ministry of National Defence of Romania were held in the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia. The delegations were led by Head of Department for International Military Cooperation Colonel Nebojša Svjetlica and Head of Directorate for International Military Cooperation Colonel Vasile Ionesku.

The delegation of the Romanian Ministry of National Defence was also received by Acting Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Predrag Bandić. On that occasion, both sides agreed that 2022 was the year of a quantitative and qualitative progress in the field of defence cooperation when compared to previous years. He expressed hope that the upcoming period would bring, through joint activities and cooperation, the confirmation of traditionally good and friendly relations between the two peoples and two armed forces. Assistant Minister Bandić expressed gratitude for the principled support of Romania to the defence of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia.

During the renewed bilateral defence consultations, Colonel Svjetlica conveyed the orientation towards the intensification of cooperation, and stated that the said talks provided opportunities for its further enhancement in mutual interest.

Colonel Ionesku agreed that the bilateral talks were an excellent opportunity to analyse the manner and modalities to deepen and develop the defence cooperation. He stressed the readiness to intensify the military-to-military cooperation and its contribution to confidence building between the two armed forces.

Following the analysis of the cooperation carried out in 2022, the interlocutors considered proposed activities of bilateral military cooperation for the year 2023. After the activities have been harmonised, Colonel Svjetlica and Colonel Ionescu signed the Programme for the Bilateral Military Cooperation for the year 2023 between the Ministry of National Defence of Romania and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia.
