Meeting between Minister Stefanović and Ambassador of Azerbaijan Khasiyev

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, has met today with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Serbia, H.E. Kamil Khasiyev, to discuss further improvement of defence cooperation between the two countries.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Stefanović assessed the defence cooperation as good and in line with overall bilateral relations, which are based on warm friendship and strategic partnership between Serbia and Azerbaijan.

He also reminded of the importance of the Military Technical Cooperation Agreement, which was signed in October last year before the opening of Belgrade’s Partner 2021 International Arms Fair, which was attended by a delegation led by the Minister of Defence Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant General Madat Guliyev.

According to the Minister, the modernization and provision of equipment for the Serbian Armed Forces, as well as the further enhancement of defence capabilities, are some of the strategic goals of our country, and there is a possibility of further development of military-economic, military-technical, military-educational and military-medical cooperation with Azerbaijan.

He also thanked Azerbaijan for maintaining an uncompromising stance on the non-recognition of the so-called Kosovo and showing support for Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in numerous international organizations.
Ambassador Khasiyev agreed with Minister Stefanović that there was a potential for further development of cooperation between the two countries and conveyed the determination of the Azerbaijani side to continue cooperation in the aforementioned areas.

He emphasized that high-level visits and meetings are of great importance in that regard, and he invited Minister Stefanović for an official visit to Azerbaijan.
According to Ambassador Khasiyev, his country is Serbia’s sincere friend, and it sticks by its position on the issue of so-called Kosovo. He also said that Azerbaijan would continue to support Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
