Minister Stefanović’s statement on occasion of Victory Over Fascism Day and Europe Day

On the occasion of the Victory Over Fascism Day and Europe Day, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, has stated that today Serbia is marking these two important days which symbolize our glorious, heroic history and the future we want to build for our children.
“The world history records the fact that a small Serbian people said a resolute “no” to Hitler and his forces of evil. We had to pay dearly for choosing to be on the right side of history, the only one acceptable to us, with the lives of our grandparents, parents and other loved ones. We were one of the nations that suffered the most in the Second World War, but we did not hesitate for a single moment in our fight for humanity, freedom and peace, for the values that are deeply ingrained in the Serbian people”, Minister Stefanović said.

He emphasized that we must never forget our ancestors’ sacrifice, or the tenacity with which they fought for a better future of Serbia and the whole of Europe and the world.

“We are deeply grateful to our ancestors, heroes, thanks to whom we can hold our heads high today, proud of ourselves as a nation that has always been on the right side of history.  Serbia and its citizens still consider justice, freedom and love for the fatherland the highest ideals. It is the last will and testament left to us by our ancestors - to safeguard the freedom they won for us having paid dearly. Preserving the memory of them, we are building a country committed to maintaining peace and stability, a country committed to building and creating a better future. We are building Serbia that sees itself in the European Union, whose creation we are marking today, as a place that represents a community of nations resting upon the principles of cooperation and solidarity, united in achieving progress and creating better living conditions for all nations," said Minister Stefanović.
