Minister Stefanović: Insulting and belittling our soldiers and superior officers is unacceptable

Statement of Deputy Prime Minister and Minsiter of Defence Nebojša Stefanović PhD:

“Regrettably, it is only yesterday that I learned that Milomir Marić, in the harshest manner possible insulted officers, soldiers and military profession in general, on the television with national frequency saying that the officers are “primitive people” and that “only the most stupid ones join the armed forces” and that “only good-for-nothing go to the armed forces”. These are unforgivable insults for officers’ and soldiers’ honour, and for the profession that for our people represents the supreme duty, throughout its entire history and today as well.

I want to remind Milomir Marić of the heroes of Košare, and I want to remind him of Milan Tepić and Stojadin Mirković, of Milenko Pavlović, and of thousand other soldiers, non-commissioned officers and officers, and of their families whom he insulted with such a gesture. Those people gave for Serbia the most valuable thing that they had – their lives, while they asked nothing in return from Serbia.

It is unacceptable that someone insults and belittles our soldiers and superior officers, the great men and patriots, who gave their lives when it was needed to defend their fatherland. I will not allow anyone to slander the name of those who love Serbia more than anything and who fight for it by day and night, living for Serbia and its safe sky and soil.

This is the country of great Živojin Mišić, Radomir Putnik, Stepa Stepanović, the country that celebrates the name of every soldier who fell for the freedom that we enjoy today. This is the country whose freedom we owe to each of them and to every man in uniform who stands in snow, worthy of the crest of the Serbian Armed Forces and his country. No one has the right to sully the name and honour of Serbian soldiers since they are the pride of their country and of all its citizens."
