MoD member Jovana Preković becomes karate world champion in Dubai

Jovana Preković, a member of the Military Academy Sports Unit, who currently holds the Olympic, world and European karate champion titles in the -61 kg category, has managed to defend her world title at the 25th World Karate Championship that is being held in Dubai (UAE) from November 16 to 21.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD congratulated Jovana in these words:

“Well done, European, Olympic and WORLD CHAMPION!

Serbia is proud of you, once again you have shown with all your heart who you are and where you come from!” - Minister Stefanović wrote on his Instagram account ( @nebojsastefanovic ).

Jovana, who had no fights in the first round thanks to her results so far and her position in the world ranking, had a series of wins all the way to the finals, beating the Polish competitor Dorota Banaszczyk 4-0 in the second round, Peru's Alexandra Grande 5-0 in the third round, and Algerian Midi Chaima 8-0 in the fourth round. After her 3-2 victory in an extremely uncertain, semi-final match with Ingrid Suchánková, a Slovak competitor who had won a bronze medal at this year's European Championship in Poreč, our competitor advanced to the finals of this competition.

Repeating her victory from this year’s European Championship in Poreč, after an exceptional performance in the magnificent Hamdan Sports Complex Hall in Dubai and a 2-1 victory over Ukraine’s Anita Serogina, Jovana ended this year with another title.

With this victory and the gold medals won at the European Championship in Poreč and the Olympic Games in Tokyo this year, Jovana Preković repeated her World Championship success from Spain in 2018 and thus became the new-old world champion.
