Meeting of Minister Stefanović and Akar in Ankara



Today, in Ankara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović PhD, who is paying official visit to Turkey, met Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Turkey Hulusi Akar. The two ministers talked about the cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence and opportunities for its further enhancement, especially in military-to-military and military economic segments.

During the talks, Stefanović and Akar agreed that the exceptionally good relations between the two presidents, Aleksandar Vučić and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, represented great potential and basis for further development of the cooperation of the two ministries.

Reminding that Turkey is one of the most significant foreign policy partners of our country and that the influx of direct Turkish investments in Serbia has been growing continuously, Minister Stefanović expressed the orientation of our country towards the realisation of more intensive military cooperation, particularly in military economic and military-to-military segments.

He pointed out that the participation in joint military exercises was an excellent opportunity for the exchange of experiences and knowledge between the two armed forces, and he instanced the upcoming joint paratrooper training for special units to be conducted in Turkey. He also expressed his expectation that members of Turkish Armed Forces would participate more actively in exercises organised by the Serbian Armed Forces.

Minister Akar expressed his gratitude to Stefanović for visiting Turkey, underlying that it was such kind of talks that contributed to finding modalities of cooperation in the interest of both peoples. He estimated that the relations between our countries were very important both for the stability of the entire region, and its economic and overall development.
