25th anniversary of the signing of Agreement on Sub-Regional Arms Control

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Agreement on Sub-Regional Arms Control, a session of the Sub-Regional Consultative Commission was held today. High representatives of the Parties to the Agreement and the international community participated in the session.

The participants in the meeting of the Sub-Regional Consultative Commission, which is being held by video conferencing this time, looked back at the quarter of a century of the implementation of the Agreement.
The Agreement on Sub-Regional Arms Control, which became one of the key mechanisms for preserving and promoting security and stability in the South-East Europe area, was signed on 14 June 1996 in Florence.

This Agreement is the first, and so far the only, successfully implemented mechanism of conventional arms control in the world. Its uniqueness has been recognized by the international community, which is reflected in sending numerous assistants and guest observers to inspection missions, and in the participation of foreign participants in courses and activities dealing with the implementation of the Agreement.
