Meeting between Minister Stefanović and French Chief of Defence Staff General Lecointre

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, met today with the Chief of the Defence Staff of the French Armed Forces, Army General François Lecointre.

Minister Stefanović expressed satisfaction with the level of defence cooperation between the two countries so far and expressed hope that the French Chief of the Defence’s first visit would result in definitive agreements to promote it further, especially in the field of military to military cooperation.
Stefanović also said that the participation of the French 68th Artillery Regiment’s platoon in the "Platinum Wolf" exercise with members of the Serbian Armed Forces was one of the important steps in increasing cooperation in this field.

He also pointed out that the ongoing and planned projects in the field of military-economic and military-technical cooperation would significantly contribute to the equipment acquisition and modernization of the Serbian Armed Forces.

General Lecointre expressed satisfaction with the visit to the Republic of Serbia and the opportunity to discuss modalities for improving defence cooperation in mutual interest.

According to him, the security situation in the world requires a more intense involvement in the UN and EU peacekeeping operations, and the two militaries can enhance cooperation in that domain through joint participation.

During the one-day visit, General Lecointre had a meeting with the President of Serbia and the Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, and he also met with the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, at whose invitation he is visiting our country.
