Minister Stefanović: Thank you, you put your hearts and souls into fight for people’s lives

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, thanked today a team of 17 military doctors, nine medical technicians and dozens of logisticians, led by Colonel Radivoje Andjelković, MD, who have been saving people's lives for almost a year in the temporary hospital in Belgrade's "Arena". They showed much more than professional dedication, Stefanović pointed out, because they put their hearts and souls into the fight for patients’ health.

Since July last year, a total of 5,400 patients have been treated at the Arena Covid hospital. The last patients were discharged from one of the most important temporary Covid hospitals before the weekend, and it will stop working on Friday, after being disbanded.

- I want to thank these people and I will mention their names on purpose, because they are the people who worked in the Covid hospital in two waves, treating patients with serious Covid-19, patients who needed intensive medical care, who cared for them day and night and showed much more than professional dedication. They really put their hearts and souls into the fight for those people - said Minister Stefanović.

On this occasion, he thanked all the members who worked in the "Arena" on two occasions: the hospital commander, Colonel Radivoje Andjelković, the chief medical coordinators, Lieutenant Colonels Predrag Bogdanović, MD, and Veljko Milić, Colonels Miroslav Dinić, MD, and Dejan Marinković, Lieutenant Colonels Dragan Marić, MD, Dejan Ilić, MD and Boris Džudović, Captains Miloje Pantović, MD, Miloje Stević, MD, Danijel Cuca, MD, Nemanja Okicić, MD,  and civilian employees Dr Dejan Pilčević, Dr Marina Plemić, Dr Danijela Pajić and Dr Zorana Kremić.

The Minister also thanked the military nurses Milena Denić, Hana Ožegović Kvadro, Sladjana Bošković, Vesna Miletić, Radmila Aleksić, Vesna Živić and Ana Zogović and the military medical technicians Darko Brkušanin and Željko Pavić, but also the chief logistician, Lieutenant Colonel Miroslav Genga, and dozens of logisticians, members of the defence system, who helped keep the hospital functioning in the best possible way.

- They were the first line of defence, along with all the other colleagues who worked in the Covid system. I want to thank them for fighting, for being humane and professional and for showing us how much they love their homeland, because they are true patriots - said the Minister of Defence.

He thanked all the health workers who had fought and who were still fighting against the Covid epidemic.

- Thanks to the preventive measures introduced by our country, the Government of Serbia and our President, the situation in Serbia is favourable today. Of course, we haven’t completely defeated the epidemic yet, but the situation is much better than before. Vaccination yields good results and I would like to take this opportunity to invite members of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces to get vaccinated and show that we are responsible and serious people who take care of themselves and others - said the Minister.

Stefanović pointed out that he wanted to encourage all other citizens of Serbia, pointing out the importance of immunization.

- About 95% of MMA’s doctors have been vaccinated, which tells you that people working in this profession know why immunization is important. That is the only way to defeat this vicious disease - said the Minister of Defence.
