Statement

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, said today that the decision on the introduction of compulsory military service, if adopted, would apply to all young people equally.

“The false concern about the children coming from the countryside and blue-collar families that certain former regime politicians show is so hypocritical that it is difficult to even comment on it. They showed how much they cared about those children and our country when they were in power, when they caused those children’s parents to lose their jobs, sold out and closed down factories and destroyed Serbian economy”, said Minister Stefanović reacting to the lies stating that those who pay would not have to do their military service.

He pointed out that, should a decision be made to reintroduce compulsory military service, it would apply to all young people, regardless of their financial situation or anything else.

“At the same time, we hear fabricated statements every day about military service and the alleged concern for the poor and the situation in the armed forces from none other than the people who dismantled and weakened the Serbian Armed Forces to the point where they had only one and a half aircraft in working order after their transformations and who, without asking the citizens, wanted our country to join the NATO”, Stefanović said.

He said that Serbia would continue strengthening its military in the best interest of our people.

„Our military is not only our pride, but it is also a bulwark of our homeland’s security against anyone who even thinks about endangering it. A strong military guarantees stability, and thus Serbia’s further development and a better future for our children and young people in our country”, Stefanović concluded.
