Stefanović: Situation in Kosovo and Metohija is becoming more and more complex

Secretary of the National Security Council, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, said today after the session of the National Security Council, that special attention had been paid to current situation in Kosovo and Metohija which he described as more and more complex.

– We discussed several important topics, and the first one was the current situation in Kosovo and Metohija. We talked about a complex situation for us. It is complex in the political and security sense. We have considered what our state bodies are doing to preserve security and stability in the southern Serbian province - he said.
He emphasized that the intention was to provide security primarily to the Serbian population.

Stefanović pointed out that the situation in Kosovo and Metohija was becoming more and more complex, and that certain congratulatory messages were sent to us for Statehood Day, which many politicians in the southern Serbian province had happily received, but not those in central Serbia.

Our intention is to protect, in cooperation with KFOR, the stability and security of the Serbian population that is in danger in Kosovo and Metohija, and to show that Serbia is a serious partner and that we will not allow any pogrom, expulsion or crimes against the Serbian population.

He said that the needs and investments in the security forces - the armed forces, the police and the Security Information Agency - were also discussed.

– We looked at what needs to be done in the coming period, what investments should be made this and next year when it comes to procurement of modern weapons, which will make our armed forces and police well equipped, stronger and able to face new challenges - he said.
