Serbian Armed Force paratroopers win gold and silver medals at the national championship
At the 65th Serbian National Championship held today at Zalužani sports airfield near Banja Luka, Master Sergeant Sinisa Micić won a gold medal while Sergeant First Class Dejan Cvetković from the “Sky Otters” Parachute Team of the Serbian Armed Forces won a silver medal, and Slobodan Terzić from the Skydiving Club of the Veterans of the 63rd Parachute Brigade - “Arhistratig” won a bronze medal.
The “Sky Otters” Parachute Team of the Serbian Armed Forces also distinguished themselves in the team competition by winning the bronze medal of the “Five Star” Memorial Cup, which was also held today at the Zalužani sports airfield, organised by the Skydive Aviation Club of Banja Luka.
The competitions were attended by Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin and Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilović.
After presenting the medals to the best competitors of the Serbian Parachute Championship, Minister Vulin said that we were proud of the results of the members of the Serbian Armed Forces, who successfully represented Serbia in Banja Luka.
- Parachuting is one of the most valued sports in the Serbian Armed Forces. Apart from being an indicator of our willingness and ability, this is also a sport that speaks about people who are able to overcome all fears and obstacles. The Serbian Armed Forces has always been proud of its paratroopers, and looking at today’s results we can see that we are not only the best in Serbia, but that we are also among those who have something to say and show in Europe – Minister Vulin said, announcing the participation of the military parachuting national team at the 7th Military World Games in the People's Republic of China, in Wuhan, that is to begin in about ten days.
According to Minister Vulin, all those who become members of the Serbian Armed Forces will be able to play whatever sports they want, no matter how expensive and demanding they are, because the Serbian Armed Forces is there to provide it to them.
- Anyone who ties their destiny and future to the Serbian Armed Forces will be able to develop in every plan, whether it is military training, whether it is sport, or any other form of advancement; it is worth being with the Serbian Armed Forces – Minister Vulin said.
Master Sergeant Sinisa Micić, a member of the 63rd Parachute Battalion of the Special Brigade of the Serbian Armed Forces and a member of the “Sky Otters” Parachute Team of the Serbian Armed Forces, had multiple reasons to celebrate today.
- I won the first place at the 56th Serbian Parachuting Championship. For me, this is a great success, but team success is also very important to me, as we are preparing for the big CISM competition we are having in China this month – Master Sergeant Micić said, adding that today he has recorded the 5,522nd jump in his thirty-year long parachuting career.
- This is my first medal in individual jump on the target competition. So far, I won the Serbian national championship many times. The medal I won is not only mine, but also the success of the entire “Sky Otters” Parachute Team that I train with – Sergeant First Class Dejan Cvetković said.
Competitors from Serbia competing for national medals came from the “Sky Otters” Parachute Team of the Serbian Armed Forces, Skydiving Club of the Veterans of the 63rd Parachute Brigade - “Arhistratig” and "Our Wings" Aeroclub from Paraćin. The main referee in today's competitions was Major Nenad Stojiljković of the Special Brigade of the Serbian Armed Forces.
The tradition of the Serbian Parachuting Championship goes back to 1949 when it was held in Ruma for the first time, while the “Five Star” Memorial Cup has been organised for the seventh consecutive year, as a sign of the commemoration of the five members of the Banjaluka Parachute Club at the Zalužani airfield in 2012.
Joint organization of the two competitions is an expression of the excellent connection and constant improvement of cooperation between the Serbian Air Forces and the Republic of Srpska aviation, within the framework of special and parallel connections between the Republic of Serbia and the Republika Srpska. Both competitions were attended by about 65 parachutists from Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Sweden and Germany, out of which 30 fought to win the place of the national champion of Serbia.
