Minister Vulin: KFOR to disarm the illegal armed formation in Kosovo and Metohija

Asked to comment if something had changed regarding the cooperation between the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR because of the establishment of the so called Armed Forces of Kosovo, Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin, appearing in the morning news of the Radio Television of Serbia, pointed out that he expected KFOR to disarm that illegal formation.

- Pursuant to Resolution 1244, KFOR’s job is not to allow the establishment of any sort of armed formation. Can you imagine any paramilitary formation appearing in the north of Kosovo and Metohija? What would be the reaction of KFOR? How many minutes would it take them to say that any armed formation is not in accordance with the Resolution 1244? Why don’t they do it now? What prevents them to do that now? – asked the minister of defence.

Asked by the news host about the contacts between the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR in previous two days, the minister of defence pointed out that there existed a regular communication with KFOR.

- It is not so because we believe that KFOR is faultless and that it is unbiased. As you have seen, it is not, and, unfortunately, it has disappointed us several times; and not just us but the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. In line with the Resolution 1244, and Military Technical Agreement, we have to cooperate with KFOR, and we are doing so. Therefore, we maintain permanent communication and we will carry out joint patrols, and the Chief of the General Staff met the new KFOR Commander on 14th December in Niš – Minister Vulin highlighted and stressed that we would do all we can to preserve peace and stability in Kosovo and Metohija, despite the fact that our confidence had been often betrayed.
