Minister Vulin: The armed forces are here to help

Today, Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin visited the Military Medical Centre Karaburma in Belgrade where free medical examinations have been organised for the citizens.

Apart from the VMC Karaburma, the Military Health Department of the Ministry of Defence has organised today free specialist medical examinations in military hospitals Niš and Novi Sad.

As Minister Vulin pointed out, during the action of providing free medical examinations carried out by the military health system, more than 5,000 patients were examined.

- The Serbian Armed Forces are always there to help its citizens and they do not differentiate between its members and civilians. All citizens of Serbia deserve the best possible care and the armed forces are there to help them and to provide that care. In the course of the year, we have carried out some 600,000 examinations of the patients no matter if they were servicemen or civilians, and we have conducted 3.9 million different procedures and medical interventions. Every investment in the Serbian Armed Forces is the investment in the quality of life of every citizen of Serbia, and as much as our armed forces become more organised, stronger, better equipped, that much will the life in Serbia be safer, and better - the minister of defence stated.

Head of the Centre of Military Medical Institutions Belgrade, Colonel Slavoljub Staletović stressed that the action had been organised throughout the year, and that the beginning had been difficult and problematic.

- However, over the year, it turned out that this has been an excellent move, and that the citizens have benefited from us and that we have promoted the military health. We are extremely proud, since we have managed to demonstrate that we work well and to help our citizens - said Colonel Staletović.

This year as well, just like in the previous years, the citizens responded in great numbers to the action of providing free medical examinations. Radmila Marković from Belgrade says that the action came at the right moment and that she is happy about that.

- Free examinations mean a lot to the citizens since many do not have an opportunity to check their health - or they do not possess medical card or they have to wait very long to schedule an examination - the patient said.

A citizen of Belgrade, Miladin Luković could not be more satisfied with the examinations and the medical staff.

- These actions truly mean a lot to us. The doctors are very good, both here in Karaburma and the Military Medical Academy. I am really satisfied - Luković said.

Minister Vulin visited the VMC Karaburma today, accompanied by State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Bojan Jocić and Head of Military Health Department, Brigadier General Uglješa Jovičić.

In the framework of the examinations, the staff carries out basic blood analysis, determining of blood sugar level, ECG, radiography images, ultrasound examinations, and other diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, but exclusively on the basis of indications from medical specialists.

All interested citizens, including those without medical insurance, scheduled their specialist examinations.
