Congratulatory message from President of the Republic of Serbia and  Supreme Commander of SAF and Minister of Defense on the occasion of the Military Veterans’ Day

Congratulatory message by the President of the Republic of Serbia and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić on the occasion of 4 December – Military Veterans' Day

Congratulations to all the military veterans on 4 December – the Military Veterans’ Day.

On this day more than a century ago, an armistice in the First Balkan War was signed between the Allies on one and the Ottoman Empire, as the defeated side, on the other. From that point on, the care of veterans and their needs was taken over by the Ministry of War, within the Government of the Kingdom of Serbia, who found it these warriors vital and indispensable in the wars that followed.

You, military veterans, continue more than a century long traditions of those warriors of the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia, and demonstrate in the best possible way that the memory of our ancestors and history is our pride we are not and can not be ashamed of. They must never be forgotten, as we are here where we are today, among other things, thanks to them. Their courage and perseverance are the best proof that anything is possible in life.

On this day, convinced that we will not have to wage more war or armed conflicts in defense of our homeland from the enemy, we thank them for the sacrifices they made and promise that it was not in vain; that even though they are gone, their spirit continues to live forever.

Hoping that, as before, we will stand united in determination to build a stable future by securing the economic progress, maintaining the integrity of Serbia and the identity of the Serbian Armed Forces, I congratulate you on the holiday.

Congratulatory message by the Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vulin on the occasion of the Military Veterans' Day

I extend my warmest congratulations to all the military veterans on 4 December – the Military Veterans' Day.

Continuing the tradition of the old warriors of the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia, today we celebrate one of the greatest military holidays – the Military Veterans’ Day recalling one of the largest milestones in the recent Serbian history – the signing of armistice in the First Balkan War.

By establishing this military holiday, we honor a deeply-rooted obligation to preserve the memory of all those whose memorable deeds belong with the remembrance of the constancy of the Serbian people throughout the past wars and difficult times for our people.

Hoping that in the future, taught through the example of your great deeds we will win new battles in the fields of economz, diplomacy, science and culture; in hope that the suffering of our people and the armed forces in combat would never be repeated, and a promise that the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces, as one of the elements of the defense system, will contribute to the preservation of peace in the country, the region and around the world, I congratulate you on this holiday.
