Serbia-France relations traditionally friendly

Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin has met today in Belgrade with Ms Geneviève Darrieussecq, Secretary of State to the Minister for the Armed Forces of the French Republic, who is in Belgrade on the occasion of marking 100 years since the end of the Great War.

As Minister Vulin pointed out, it was the alliance in the First World War that left a strong mark on relations between the two countries that are marking 139 years since the establishment of their diplomatic relations this year. Excellent relations, according to Minister Vulin, established by the two respective presidents of Serbia and France, Aleksandar Vučić and Emmanuel Macron, are stable and traditionally friendly also today, and the upcoming meetings of the two presidents in Paris and Belgrade will contribute to their further enhancement.

The minister of defence pointed out at today's meeting that the transformation of the so-called “Kosovo Security Forces” to the so-called “Kosovo Army” is unacceptable for Serbia, since any decision to create paramilitary formations in Kosovo and Metohija is a violation of Resolution 1244 according to which KFOR represents the only holder of responsibility and guarantor of security and stability in the territory of the southern Serbian province. In this regard, Minister Vulin thanked for the previous participation of French troops in KFOR.

He also said that Serbia remains militarily neutral and committed to its current position, which it does not intend to change in the future.

State Secretary Darrieussecq said that France has a great confidence in the Serbian Armed Forces, and that it understands concern of the state of Serbia over the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, saying that everything should be done in accordance with the Brussels Agreement.

Also, Darrieussecq pointed out that she has confidence in the state of Serbia, a country that is a friend and that is significant in the region of the Western Balkans acting in support of its stability and stability in the entire Europe.

Vulin and Darrieussecq concluded that the cooperation between Serbia and France in the field of defence was developed, but that there was a possibility for its intensification with significant potentials.
