Enhancement of cooperation with the United Arab Emirates

Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin and United Arab Emirates Ambassador Juma Rashed Saif Zayed Aldhaheri have discussed today enhancement of the cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence.

Also, Ambassador Aldhaheri delivered a letter in which Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Dubai and the Minister of Defence, invites Minister Vulin to the Dubai Airshow 2017, to be held in November this year.

The interlocutors agreed that the very friendly relationship between the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and Sheikh General Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE, gives a special note to the cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, Vulin confirmed that the Ministry of Defence, as one of the key sectors, was firmly committed to essential enhancement of cooperation in all segments of mutual interest, and pointed out that the Republic of Serbia, as a reliable and sincere friend of the UAE, was fully committed to enhancement of bilateral cooperation in all spheres.

Vulin and Aldhaheri discussed the development and intensification of military-economic and scientific-technical cooperation, but also the military-to-military, as well as cooperation between intelligence and security services. Previous visits by the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the United Arab Emirates Lieutenant General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi to Serbia, as well as the upcoming visit by the delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces to the training areas and training centres of the UAE Armed Forces, were evaluated as very important.

Minister Vulin emphasized that Serbia attached great importance to strengthening the defence industry, which positively influences the operational and functional capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces, but at the same time it is also a "driver of the Serbian economy".

- We are particularly satisfied with the achieved enhancement of our own defence industry capacities and significantly higher exports than in the previous years, Minister of Defence said.

During the discussion on security issues and the situation in the region, Vulin confirmed that Serbia continues to be a promoter of stability in this part of Europe, as evidenced by the agreement reached by President Vučić and Macedonian Prime Minister Zaev, believing that only good regional relations contribute to the economic prosperity of the Western Balkan countries.

He added that by engaging in the regional initiatives and organizations, Serbia strengthens its own security and promotes the capabilities of its national capacities and regional centers, such as the CBRN Training Center, Military Medical Academy and Military Hospital in Niš, the South Base, the University of Defence, the Peace Operations Center and TRZ Kragujevac.  At the same time, Serbia makes special contribution to regional and global stability through participation in multinational operations of the UN and the EU, Minister of Defence said.
