New Serbian President took oath



The former Prime Minister and newly elected President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic took the oath today at the ceremony in the National Assembly of Serbia, which marked the beginning of his five-year mandate. 


The ceremony was attended by former Serbian Presidents, members of the Government, diplomatic corps, representatives of religious communities and numerous guests.

Mr. Vucic took the oath on the Constitution of Serbia, whose copy was specially designed for this occasion and Miroslav Gospel, the most important Cyrillic monument of Serbian and South Slavic, that is Serbian-Slavic literacy from 12th century. President of the Constitutional Court Vesna Ilic Prelic handed the Constitution to Mr. Vucic.

After saying the text of the oath, Mr. Vucic said that “he cannot find words and explain both hope and fear, which overcome him because he is taking the office of President of Serbia and peace and stability will be the pith of his political activities”.

 
After taking the oath, the new President of Serbia went to Andricev Venac, where parade of an honorary company of the Guard members and two branches of the Serbian Armed Forces – the Army and the Air Force and Air Defence and river unit service was prepared in front of the building of the General Secretariat of the Serbian President.

The former President Tomislav Nikolic welcomed the new President at the entrance to the building at Andricev Venac, where, the ceremony on the occasion of Mr. Vucic taking the office of President was organized after 13 hours in the ceremonial room.
 
The former President Tomislav Nikolic handed over the state seal to Mr. Vucic, as well as the special flag.
