Day of peacekeepers marked in Peacekeeping Operations Centre

The UN holiday 29th May – the Day of peacekeepers was marked today in the Peacekeeping Operations Centre in Banjica 2 barracks.

The ceremony today was attended by Head of Telecommunications and IT Department Brigadier General Predrag Simovic, former chiefs of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre led by Brigadier General Jelesije Radivojevic, veterans of UN peacekeeping missions and other numerous guests.

Acting Chief of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre Colonel Nikola Dejanovic introduced guests to history of participation of the YNA and Serbian Armed Forces in UN peacekeeping missions and talked about the current participation of the Serbian Armed Forces in 10 peacekeeping missions including 6 UN-mandated and 4 EU-mandated with 329 engaged members.

He stressed that today the Republic of Serbia is one of the most reliable and desirable UN partners in peacekeeping missions.

As the institution which actively takes part in training, selection, preparations and coordination of participation of the Serbian Armed Forces in UN peacekeeping missions, the Peacekeeping Operations Centre every year makes a modest contribution to marking the Day of peacekeepers, which the UN celebrate as one of their greatest holidays.
