Serbia will have a modern fleet of aircraft

Defence Minister Zoran Đorđević has said today that yesterday's meeting in Moscow, which, among other things, discussed the military-technical cooperation, was only a confirmation of the policy of the Government of the Republic of Serbia led by Prime Minister Vučić for the benefit of our country.

- Russian President Putin said he would sign the decree and we are waiting for it to be signed and, in accordance with that document, we will take further steps. There are two variants – it will be either assistance, or what we asked it to be – military-technical assistance based on a military-technical agreement, because it facilitates the procedure, we can get hold of these aircraft faster and start the overhaul and modernization - Minister Đorđević pointed out.

According to him, after that, there is to begin overhaul and modernization of all ten MiG-29 airplanes, which will extend their life-cycle for another ten years.

- Serbia will have a modern fleet of aircraft that will be fully capable of safeguarding our skies and be a guarantor of security for all our citizens – Minister Đorđević said.

In addition to aircraft, as confirmed by the minister, they agreed also the delivery of 30 T-72 tanks and the same number of BRDM-2 fighting vehicles.

- Both will be completely modernized and overhauled and as such are subject of a donation to the Republic of Serbia. We are waiting for the process in Russia to be completed and then we will see how they will be delivered to Serbia - Minister Đorđević said, adding that the only cost that the Republic of Serbia will have to pay is for the transportation of vehicles from a port in Russia to the final destination in Serbia.
