Assistant Minister for Defence Policy at the US-Adriatic Charter Political Directors Meeting
Consolidated meeting of political directors of the ministries of foreign affairs and defence from the countries signatories to the US-Adriatic Charter (A5), in which the delegation of the Republic of Serbia took part, led by the acting Assistant Minister for Defence Policy, Mr Milan Mojsilović, and Acting Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Security Policy, Branimir Filipović, was held today in Skopje.
During the meeting which discussed the cooperation in the framework of that initiative and future steps in response to current security challenges, the most addressed was the current political and security situation in the region and the effects of modern security developments on the situation in South Eastern Europe.In his speech, the Acting Assistant Minister for Defence Policy pointed out that Serbia was firmly committed to contribute to building a lasting peace and the promotion of cooperation in the region.
- We are particularly interested in cooperation and a common response to contemporary non-military threats to security in the form of religious extremism, organized crime, foreign fighters, terrorism, and security aspects of the current migrant crisis, Mojsilović said.
He pointed out that Serbia has contributed to global peace also by increasing its participation in multinational operations under the auspices of the United Nations, engagement in the European Union crisis management operations, as well as active participation in regional cooperation and the Partnership for Peace Programme. He reminded that our country joined the Global Coalition in the fight against the Islamic State by sharing intelligence and security information and that it has provided a significant contribution in donations of arms, military equipment and medical supplies.
The US-Adriatic Charter is a regional security grouping, an intergovernmental strategic partnership established at the initiative of the United States, with the aim of strengthening regional security and stability and faster inclusion of states into European and Euro-Atlantic integration (NATO). In accordance with the proclaimed policy of military neutrality, the Republic of Serbia has an observer status within the mentioned initiative.
