The Minister of Defence at the 59th Anniversary of the Shelter for Children

The Belgrade Shelter for Children marked, today, 59 years of its existence in the “Vuk Stefanović Karadžić” theatre.

The festive event of the institutions, which has been taking care of the most vulnerable category of the young between 7 to 18 for almost six decades now, was attended by the Minister of Defence, Mr Zoran Đorđević, and the representatives of the city, donors, ministries, centres for social work, and the persons from cultural and public life.

A programme was prepared for the children from the Shelter and the guests, with the participation of actors and dancers, but the guests awarded a mini-play performed by the protégés of the Shelter with a special applause.

The Shelter Manager, Ms Danijela Stojkovac, thanking for the congratulatory messages, briefly presented that institution and expressed particular gratitude to the Minister of Defence for “the cordially extended offer for cooperation”.

Talking to the Shelter Manager, Minister Đorđević offered organising a visit for the children to the military airport Batajnica and other units of the Serbian Armed Forces.

Among the Shelter protégés, there are victims of violence, abuse, neglect, victims of human trafficking and the children with behavioural issues, without parental care who come from the street.

During its existence the Shelter took care of more than 60 thousand children.
