Congratulatory Massage of the Minister of Defence on the Occasion of the Statehood Day
I would like to congratulate all the members of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces on the occasion of 15th February, the Candlemas – the Statehood Day.
From the historical point of view, 15th February is linked to events that are extremely important to the Serbian people – the beginning of the creation of the modern Serbian state initiated by the adoption of the first Serbian Constitution in 1835 and the First Serbian Uprising in 1804. In Serbian history, this is a day of particular significance, primarily because of the desire of the Serbian people to create a modern Serbian state and it represents a permanent source and inspiration for future Serbian generations. The citizens of Serbia confirmed their will to keep the several centuries long statehood on its European road by choosing for their statehood day the date on which the First Constitution of the Principality of Serbia was passed and on which the First Serbian Uprising started.
The Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces render full support to the peace, security and stabilisation in the region. I believe that the members of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces will, in the period ahead, persevere in their efforts so that the Republic of Serbia takes its place and become an important segment in joining regional, European and world integration.
I congratulate you on the occasion of this holiday and I wish that we jointly succeed, in the forthcoming period, in showing that we are on the right track to become a significant actor in new security developments in the Europe and world.
