Minister of Defence extends greetings on the Day of Peacekeeping Operations Centre

I extend to all members of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre my best wishes as they celebrate 17th November – the Day of the Centre.

Continuing a six decades long tradition of the Yugoslav People's Army Detachment, which, in 1956, was deployed within the composition of UNEF I – the Unit established at the United Nations after the end of the Israeli-Arab war, at the Sinai Peninsula, when the mandate of the mission of this first UN peacekeeping force was security and monitoring cessation of hostilities, the Peacekeeping Operations Centre re-engaged in the United Nations multinational operations as of 2003.

The mission of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre is concisely defined and includes the selection, recruitment, training, preparation and referral of individuals and teams to multinational operations, as well as pre-deployment training units for multinational operations, with continuous monitoring of the situation in the missions where the members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces are involved

Being confident that we will significantly increase the presence in the multinational operations of the United Nations and the European Union in the forthcoming period and that the members of the Serbian Armed Forces will equally successfully respond to challenges and threats as before, thus contributing to the preservation of peace, stability and security at the regional and global levels, I congratulate you on your jubilee.
