Djordjevic and Due on cooperation with the United Nations



Ђорђевић и Дуе о сарадњи са Уједињеним нацијамаDefence Minister Zoran Djordjevic met today with Peter Due, director of the UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations for Asia, Middle East, Europe and Latin America Division with whom he talked about the participation of the Republic of Serbia in peacekeeping missions under the auspices of this organization.
 
Minister Djordjevic commented on the history of Serbia's participation in multinational operations and recalled that currently 332 members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces participate in seven missions under the auspices of the UN.
 
- In 2016, we plan to deploy up to 700 members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in multinational operations, Djordjevic said.
 
During the talks, Djordjevic and Due discussed future cooperation, which is primarily reflected in the possible expansion of medical involvement in the UN peacekeeping operation in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and conducting of courses in our country at the initiative of the UN Integrated Training Service.
 
Djordjevic added that the Republic of Serbia paid special attention to the involvement of military medical facilities in multinational operations as well as to the increase in the number of women engaged in multinational operations. Out of 1902 members of the Serbian Armed Forces, who were engaged in MNO in the period from 2002 to 2015, 137 were women, accounting for 7.2 percent.
