Cooperation with Denmark in the field of Defence

Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic discussed today with the charge d'affaires at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark, Morten Hansen, and representatives of the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Denmark, Colonel Kurt Refsgaard, cooperation in the field of defence.

Denmark is one of the major donor countries for the Ministry of Defence, whose donations in previous years were decisive for the reform and development of the defence system, Djordjevic pointed out in the discussion. Since 2004, Denmark donated more than 4 million euros. Serbia highly appreciates the decision to continue cooperation through further expert and financial support to the initiated projects, by which Denmark has shown once again that it is a reliable partner we can count on, the Minister said.

The Ministry of Defence will continue to lead a balanced defence policy and will work on further qualitative development of relations in the field of defence with all partners and international organizations. Serbia's foreign policy goals are: the EU membership, the preservation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty and regional cooperation. Defence Minister briefed his interlocutors about the priorities of the Ministry of Defence in cooperation with the EU, as well as on cooperation with NATO within the Partnership for Peace programme.

The interlocutors concluded that defence cooperation follows the trend of the overall bilateral relations. By the end of this year, it has been planned to hold bilateral defence consultations in Belgrade, at the level of the heads of departments for International Military Cooperation of the two ministries, which is a great opportunity to consider the current cooperation and define further guidelines at the expert level,. The meeting discussed the planned meeting of defence ministers of the two countries in the first quarter of next year. Also, they discussed the possibilities of re-establishing the cooperation in the field of aviation and further continuation of cooperation in the field of psychological activities.
