Promotion of the new generation of reserve officers



On the occasion of the graduation of “September 2013" class of reserve officers, 61 young men and woman were promoted into the rank of reserve second lieutenant sin medical, veterinary and quartermaster service, the telecommunications and technical service at the ceremony organized at the Military Academy. In the previous six months they were in training at the Military Academy and the Military Medical Academy.

The ceremony was attended by Chief of the Military Academy , Major General Mladen Vuruna , prof.dr. Zvonko Magic , Head of the Institute for Medical Research , who also presented awards to the best in the rank, the Head of the National Defence School Colonel Mile Jelic , the representatives of the SAF General Staff , a number of officers of the Army of Serbia and the families, relatives and friends of the promoted reserve officers .

Welcoming the participants on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, the Chief of the National Defence Colonel Jelic said that the training of reserve officers is very important in terms of providing valuable resources for the defense system.

- What the Military and Military Medical Academy did in the past six months has been for the purpose of realization of the goals of education. TA school has to be something more than merely providing new knowledge it shoudl  create an environment in which students realistically prepare for what they will become in the future- as Jelic pointed out adding that the attendees were trained for commanding in platoon level units both in peace and in wartime.

Addressing the new reserve officers of the Army of Serbia , Head of the School of National Defense said that he believed that they had fully understood the importance of decision made in a timely and correct manner as these decisions can directly or indirectly determine the fate of people who command and control.

- I hope you will have fond memories of all you have experienced in the past six months, that we will be meeting each other and that the knowledge that you have gained here will contribute to you further professional development - said Colonel Jelic remarking that parents of reserve lieutenant should be proud of their children because as they have every reason for that.

  On behalf of the new reserve officers of the Army of Serbia , participants were greeted by the first in the rank, reserve lieutenant of the 101st  class of quartermaster service Goran Kostic, with an average grade 9.91 who, together with the reserve medical lieutenant Milovan Milovanovic as the first in a the rank of attendees at the MMA, has been awarded a wristwatch. He pointed out that over the past six months he had many challenges, new tasks and situations.

- However, this did not deter us as we were on the right path and through selfless dedication overcame all the obstacles knowing that we were just one step closer to the goal. We supported each other, and this experience resulted in a lot of love and friendships that will last forever - said the first in the rank who took this opportunity to thank the teachers and officers of the Military Academy including  units where they did their training for helping them master the knowledge and skills.

Novica and Nedeljka Kostic, Goran’s parents , first in the rank of reserve lieutenant , point out that they are happy about their son's success.

- How can a parent feel when their child has managed to represent himself in such a way but happy, says the mother, adding that she was glad to see her son follow in the footsteps of his father, a recently retired Colonel of the Serbian military.

Father points out that he is indeed proud of what his son had gone through especially as he has achieved the best success of his class.

Tamara, the girlfriend of Goran Miodrag who is third in rank, says that parents are not the only one happy today.

- I am so happy because I know that was his great desire. He will be a good officer, as he did well at the Academy and the internship so there is no reason why it would not be so.


As of today second lieutenant Anita Pantic is also a reserve officer.

- I am very excited as we have worked hard in the past six months. We spent the first three months in the barracks, and later did our training in the SAF units, where we tested our knowledge. There were difficult moments during the training , but we have all been through that and I have to say that for me this has been a wonderful experience which I would recommend to everyone .
