Marking the Anniversary of the Death of Prince Milos Obrenovic



At the Cathedral in Belgrade today, in the organization of the Board of the Serbian Government to foster the tradition of liberation wars, 153rd anniversary of the death of Milos Obrenovic, leader of the Second Serbian Uprising and the founder of the Obrenovic dynasty has been marked.

The Commemoration ceremony for Prince Milos was served by vicar of the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Jovan Ćulibrk with concelebration of the priests from the Cathedral.

Laurel wreaths on the tomb of Prince Milos were laid by the representatives of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces.

Prince Miloš the Great ruled from 1815 to 1839 and from 1858 to 1860 and was one of the most important new century Serbian rulers.

He was elected the leader of the Second Serbian Uprising in Takovo near Gornji Milanovac on Palm Sunday, 23 April 1815.

The rule of Milos Obrenovic was marked by the gradual establishment of autonomy of Belgrade province of the Ottoman Empire and imposing the personal power and conflicts with political opponents.

He was a great opponent of passing the Constitution that would limit his absolute power, yet in 1835, Sretenjski Constitution was passed, after which begins straining of the internal political crisis, which culminated in 1838 by the adoption of the so-called Turkish constitution and the abdication of Prince Milos.

After the overthrow of Prince Alexander Karađorđevic, Prince Milos found himself on the Serbian throne for the second time, and it was from 1858 until his death on 26 September in 1860.
