Exhibition "Decorations of the Principality and Kingdom of Serbia" opened in Nis Temple



In the Nis Temple the exhibition "Decorations of the Principality and Kingdom of Serbia", which was organized a Military Museum and National Museum in Nis, under the auspices of the Serbian government on occasion of celebration of the National Day of Serbia. The exhibition was opened by Minister of Culture and Information Society Predrag Markovic, while the opening was attended by the Mayor of Nis, Milos Simonovic, Angolan Ambassador Toko Diakenga Sera, representatives of the Serbian Army, cultural institutions and citizens.

At the opening of the exhibition, Minister Markovic said that the commemoration of National Day and other important dates in our history, preserves our identity and self-esteem, as without knwing past, we cannot build a future.

The exhibition presents more than a hundred medals, decorations, plaques, diplomas and charters from the Military Museum collections which show the development of Serbian decorations from 19th century to the end of World War II. The author is senior curator of the exhibition Military Museum Dusanka Maricic. The exhibition is complemented by portraits of the National Museum of Nis and Galleries of Matica srpska, lithographs depicting significant historical events with sketches and drawings of medals and decorations.

Visitors showed greatest interest for the decoration that was the first to be established "Medal of Loyalty," which Prince Milos Obrenovic, after reclaiming the Serbian throne in 1878, presented to his supporters as well as recognitions that king Petar presented to deserving participants in the wars for liberation.
