Minister Vulin: With the completion of the second phase of works on the lighting system, "Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović" airport regained 100 percent of its manoeuvrability
Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin, together with the Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence, Major General Duško Žarković, attended the presentation of the runway lighting system at the military airport “Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović“ in Batajnica.
After the visit, Minister Vulin pointed out that the “Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović” airport regained 100 percent of its manoeuvrability with the completion of the second phase of works on its lighting system.
- Our pilots deserve the best, and now they have the best lighting. Both runways are lit and they can perform their tasks in all conditions, both at night or in the conditions of otherwise reduced visibility. We will continue modernizing our airport and our Air Force and Air Defence, but above all, we will try to provide a better life and a higher standard for all members of the Air Force and to keep these people with both technology and standard - Minister Vulin pointed out.According to Assistant Commander for Operations of the 204th Air Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Dejan Beda, works on the lighting of the manoeuvring areas of the “Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović” airport have been completed.
- Both runways got new lighting systems including edge lights, threshold and runway end lights, as well as precision approach path indicators (PAPI system). New high-intensity approach lights have also been installed, which enable access even in bad weather conditions. With this system, we have completed an important phase and after 1999, all functions of the airport have become operational again. We are also adding certain systems that we have not had so far - Lieutenant Colonel Dejan Beda emphasized.
After the briefing about the works on the runway and the lighting system, Minister Vulin visited the electric power unit that powers the runway lighting and the control tower at the Batajnica airport.The airport was also visited by the State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Bojan Jocić, Deputy Commander of the AF and AD, Brigadier General Željko Bilić, Commander of the 204th Air Brigade, Colonel Brane Krnjajić and Chief of the Infrastructure Department, Colonel Radmilo Kravić.
