The beginning of the construction of a new Covid hospital in Kruševac

Prime Minister Brnabić thanked members of the Serbian Armed Forces for their invaluable contribution to the fight against the coronavirus

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, attended today the beginning of the construction of a new Covid hospital within the "Rasina" Military Complex in Kruševac and, together with the Minister of Defence, Aleksandar Vulin, and the Minister of Health, Zlatibor Lončar, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the hospital which is planned to be completed by 15 December this year.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Brnabić said that the new Covid hospital in Kruševac is being built for a possible second wave of the coronavirus in the Republic of Serbia, which is expected during autumn and winter, but if the vaccine arrives earlier or if we all successfully fight the coronavirus, and if there is no need for the new Covid hospital, it will be a multifunctional hospital at the service of the citizens of Kruševac and the entire Rasina district.

- The hospital is an investment worth 1,724,200,000 dinars. It will have 500 beds and an intensive care unit, and the deadline for the completion of works is 15 December this year. I would like to thank the contractors, the local company "Termomont", which has already shown in Karaburma, Belgrade that it can work quickly, efficiently, not for the profit, but in the interest of the state and our citizens - said Prime Minister Brnabic, adding that she is glad that local companies are doing such challenging jobs.

The Prime Minister expressed special gratitude to all members of the Serbian Armed Forces, because, as she says, "Without the Serbian Armed Forces, we would not have been able to fight the coronavirus so successfully."

- Thank you to all members of the Serbian Armed Forces who have been engaged every day since 16 March in providing support to civilian structures, our health care, our citizens, local governments, cities and municipalities in their fight, in their attempts to make the situation as safe as possible in our country. At the moment, members of the Serbian Armed Forces are engaged in the preparation and management of temporary hospitals. Since the beginning of the epidemic, 11 temporary hospitals have been set up in six cities throughout Serbia with 5,522 beds. All this was provided to us by the Serbian Armed Forces. Members of the Serbian Armed Forces are engaged every day in the treatment of Covid patients in military institutions that came to the rescue, but also in the treatment of non-Covid patients - said Prime Minister Brnabić and added that by order of the President of the Republic of Serbia, military hospitals, primarily the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade engaged in the treatment of non-Covid patients, regardless of whether they are military or civilian patients.

Members of the Serbian Armed Forces are engaged daily in the disinfection of Covid clinics at more than 60 locations throughout Serbia, and only in the fight against coronavirus and daily support to civilian structures, about 2,000 members of the armed forces are engaged daily, the Prime Minister emphasizes.

- Along with health care and health professionals, the Serbian Armed Forces provided invaluable support throughout our country and to all our citizens in the fight against the coronavirus. This is another indicator which shows the preparedness of our armed forces, which shows that they are much readier today, that they can react quickly and efficiently - said Prime Minister Brnabić and thanked the Serbian Armed Forces for allocating a part of their property in Belgrade and Kruševac for the construction of two new Covid hospitals.

It is important that we are ready, that we have enough respirators, beds, tests, PCR tests, but also that we are ready for autumn and winter when the flu season takes place and when we expect even harder blows, the Prime Minister says.

- I would like to thank the citizens of the Republic of Serbia because they respect all measures and because today we can see the results of all this. If we continue to fight like this and to be so fast, so efficient and disciplined, I believe that the wave that will take place in the autumn or winter will not necessarily be much worse than the one we already experienced in March and July, when our health system, our country and citizens received the heaviest blows - said Prime Minister Brnabić and added that "we continue to fight together, the Government continues to prepare all structures that are in the service of all citizens of the Republic of Serbia every day."

The beginning of the construction of the new Covid hospital in Kruševac was attended by the State Secretary Bojan Jocić, the Head of the Military Health Department, Major General Uglješa Jovičić, MD, the Commander of the Rasina Brigade Development Command, Colonel Rade Rnjaković, the Mayor of Kruševac, Jasmina Palurović and the CEO of the “Termomont” company, Dejan Burčul.
