Ministry of Defense awarded diploma of appreciation by Sports Association of Serbia




At a ceremony held today at the former National Assembly buildingthe Sports Association of Serbia awarded distinguished individuals and institutions their traditional annual prizes.

Diplomas of appreciation for an excellent cooperation and contribution to the development of sports in the Serbian Armed Forces, awarded to the Ministry of Defenseby the Sports Association of Serbia, was receivedby the Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vulin. Diploma was handed to the Minister by the president of the Sports Association of Serbia, Davor Štefanek.

The biggest social and sports recognition in the Republic of Serbia –the 2019 May Prize was awarded for ten categories. The Sports Association of Požarevca was awarded as a prominent regional sports organization, and in the category of sports organization the award went to the Basketball Club “Red Star”.

For this year,the award-winning athletes in the Olympic sports are water polo players Milan Aleksić, and in the non-Olympic sports– bowling, Jasmina Aleksić was awarded. The May award for disabled athletes was awarded to taekwondist Dejana Bačko. A sports expert, who from this dayon can take pride in being awarded the famous recognition of the Sports Association of Serbia, is Stoian Dobrev, thanks to whom the numerous successes of our athletes in wrestling occurred.

Nemanja Marijan was awarded in the category of sports functionaries, and in the category of sports journalist Nedeljko Iljukić. The May Award for Lifetime Achievement was posthumously awarded to Mirko Butulija and Milos Mitić.

The May Award, as the highest social and sports award, traditionally awarded by the Sports Association of Serbia, was established in 1961 and can only be obtained once.

The award ceremony was preceded by a solemn Assembly of the Sports Association of Serbia, chaired by celebrated athlete Davor Štefanek, President of the Association.
