Teamwork of the military and the police on safeguarding the state border



General Ljubisa Dikovic, Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff, has visited today part of the units of the joint military and police force engaged in the securing of the state border, accomplishing their tasks in the border zone with the Republic of Macedonia.
 
General Dikovic commended military and police members for their professional and efficient performance of the assigned tasks of border security.
 
- Teamwork is the basis for good organization, and your engagement on the ground shows the power of the state and the readiness of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior to accomplish all the assigned tasks, General Dikovic said.
 
Chief of the General Staff added that the Serbian Armed Forces is ready to engage additional forces and resources for border security, as necessary.
 
Commander of the joint forces Major General Zelimir Glisovic informed General Dikovic about the current performance of tasks on preventing illegal border crossings of migrants in the territory of the Republic of Serbia and disabling smuggling. He stressed that in the period from 22nd July this year until now, the joint force has managed to discourage 5,101 migrants from illegally crossing the border.
 
- The largest number of migrants, 4,428 of them, gave up illegal crossing when they noticed the police and military forces, while 673 migrants, caught along with the smugglers or in the Serbian territory, were accommodated in the reception centres, General Glisovic added.
 
General Dikovic visited also the new deployment location at Miratovacko polje and made sure the correct practicing of a combined foot patrol and making ambush by members of the Joint Forces. In the Reception Centre in Presevo, General Dikovic visited members of the Serbian Armed Forces who were housed there and talked with representatives of the Commissariat for Refugees, who informed him about the current situation in relation to migrants at the Centre.
 
During the tour, he noticed a group of a dozen migrants who, noticing members of the military and the police gave up illegal crossing from Macedonia.
 
During the tour, the Chief of General Staff was accompanied by the Army Commander, Lieutenant General Milosav Simovic, Deputy Commander of Joint Operations Command, Major General Slavoljub Janicijevic, Commander of the 4th Army Brigade, Brigadier General Zoran Lubura, representatives of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Interior.
