The continuity of good cooperation with Slovakia

State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Nenad Neric met today in Belgrade with Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic General Milan Maxim, who is on an official visit to our country. The meeting was also attended by the Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic.

The interlocutors agreed that the overall relations between the two countries are very good, with a continuous and intensive political dialogue at all levels.

- We are unequivocally committed to the further development of defence cooperation with the Republic of Slovakia, and a great example of how the things can work well is the cooperation between Serbia and Slovakia in the UNFICYP mission in Cyprus, the State Secretary said.

Neric reiterated that the Republic of Serbia particularly appreciates the principled stance of Slovakia not to recognize the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo, in spite of great pressures. He stressed that the friendly relations between the two countries have been confirmed by solidarity and generous assistance that the Slovak Republic provided to Serbia during the floods and the migrant crisis.

- Membership of the European Union is and will remain a strategic foreign policy goal of Serbia and we keep openly repeating it to our partners both in the East and the West, Neric said.

Neric and Maxim emphasized the continuity of good relations and cooperation between the two armies, as evidenced by yesterday's screening of the film "Lone soldier on the ground", which was attended by the Serbian and Slovakian CHODs, at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Belgrade.

At the end of the meeting, State Secretary Neric conveyed to General Maxim congratulations for the election of Peter Gajdos as the new Minister of Defence of the Slovak Republic.
