Honorary Salvo on the occasion of the Statehood Day

In commemoration of the 15th of February - the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia, today at the Sava terrace at Kalemegdan a salvo of ten volleys from six pieces of artillery was fired.

The firing, which was conducted by the Honour Guard Battalion of the Serbian Armed Forces, was attended by the State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Jovica Draganic, Guard Commander Major General Milomir Todorovic, Head of Human Resources Department of the General Staff, Brigadier General Stojan Konjikovac and many citizens.

Serbia celebrates the Statehood Day on the great Christian holiday of Candlemas, marking the anniversary of the First Serbian Uprising under the leadership of Karadjordje. On the same day, in 1835, the first Constitution of the Serbian principality was adopted, known as Sretenje constitution, that defined Serbia as an independent principality divided into districts, counties and municipalities.
