Marking of 73rd anniversary since the beginning of World War II in Yugoslavia



The central commemoration ceremony on the occasion of the Memorial Day of the beginning of the Second World War in Yugoslavia, marking the 73rd anniversary since the bombing of the cities in Serbia, was held in Belgrade today, at the monument of the pilots killed in the April war, at the Zemun quay.

With state and military honors, the ceremony was led by General Ljubisa Dikovic, Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces. On behalf of the Serbian Government, he laid a laurel wreath at the monument to the fallen pilots, and representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces, City of Belgrade, nongovernmental organizations, survivors and descendants of victims have also paid tribute to the fallen victims by laying wreaths.

Laying of flowers and wreaths was also organized at the "Beograd" Palace, then at the Granite Cross in the churchyard of the Ascension Church, where the shelter in which hundreds of citizens of Belgrade were killed in 6th April bombing was located. A memorial service to innocent victims was held at the monument to the victims in Karadjordje's park, where another bombed shelter was located, as well as in the Alley of the Victims of the 6th April bombing in New Cemetery.
