Marking the Day of the Special Brigade



On the occasion of 29th September, the Day of the Special Brigade, the military ceremony was held in the "Rastko Nemanjic" barracks in Pancevo today, attended by the command and the members of that unit, and also Brigadier General Zarko Lazarevic, Army Command Chief of Staff, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Mayor of Pancevo Pavle Radovanov, Bishop of Jegar Porfirie and number of guests.

Special Brigade Commander Brigadier General Ilija Todorov said that the unit between the two holidays, put emphasis in its work on training for the assigned missions and tasks, through more than 1,000 firing exercises, many other exercises, specialised training events and courses. He pointed out that the difficult material and financial situation did not prevent the Special Brigade to find a way to implement the most complex part of the training as evidenced by the thousands of parachute jumps and a several hundred hours of immersion.

Todorov highlighted as especially important thing cooperation of the Special Brigade and the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior and the Special Forces of the neighbouring countries which will result in the organization of joint exercise of special units of several countries to be held in October in Serbia.

Mayor of Pancevo Pavle Radovanov said, addressing the members of the brigade, that the local government and the Serbian Armed Forces have always had good relations, especially in the case of natural disasters. He stressed that this cooperation should develop and that the city in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence will make any effort to help the housing provision and improving the quality of life of its members.

At the end of the celebration, members of the 63rd Parachute Battalion performed demonstration jumps with the flags of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Special Brigade, and the visitors had the opportunity to see the static display of weapons and equipment used by the members of Special Forces from Pancevo and Nis.
