Marking the Day of the Republic of Serbia



The Day of the Republic of Serbia is marked with a number of manifestations today. On occasion of this National holiday, President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic laid a commemorative wreath on the Unknown Hero Tom on Avala.

“On behalf of all citizens of Serbia, on behalf of all children living in peace, in the name of Serbia which exists, I express my deep gratitude for all the sacrifice you laid to your motherland, Serbia. If you are unknown and a hero it is difficult, yet you remain our pride for our Serbia we have always fought for. To both the known and the unknown, thank you”-reads President Nikolic’s comment in the memorial book.


Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic laid a laurel wreath on Karadjordje’ssarcophagus in the church Saint George in Topola. Laurel wreath laying ceremony was performed with full state and military honors paid by the honor guard of the Serbian Army Guard.

Representative Orchestra of the Serbian Army Guard held in the city center a promenade parade. Members of the orchestra in the Knez Mihailo Street before hundreds of Belgrade performed a famous march including the infantry march, King Aleksandar’s march, King Milan Obrenovic and King Peter I’s marches, the song "Serbian royal guard" as well as several popular compositions. Parade ended at the Republic Square, accompanied by performance of the march "March to the Drina," which started at 15:00 sharp.

The Nis military band on occasion of marking the 15th February - Day of the Republic of Serbia, held a parade as well. Military musicians under the baton of Captain Dejan Djordjevic performed the famous marches, marches and melodies from the military tradition of the Serbian people. The attention of the citizens of Nis was particularly attracted by "March of King Aleksandar", " March of the Guards", "March to the Drina" and "My Fatherland".



Military Museum at Kalemegdan and the Yugoslav Air Force Museum in Surcin, to mark the National Day of Serbia, have prepared an exhibition "Days ofOpen Museums."From 15 to 17 February, in the course of three days, museums will be open from 10 am to 17 pm, and admission for visitors is free.
