Large-caliber military rifles in the Military Museum
In the celebration of Day of the Republic of Serbia, in Belgrade Military Museum the exhibition of "High-caliber military rifle" by Vuk Obradovic, curator of the museum. The event was officially declared open by the Serbian Army Chief of General Staff Lieutenant-General Ljubisa Dikovic.Exhibition was attended by the foreign military attaches, members of the the Minister of Defence and Chief of the Serbian Army staff members, unit commanders, chiefs and directors of institutions of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia and directors of cultural institutions and collectives from Kalemegdan.
General Ljubisa Dikovic, as an envoy of the Serbian government, while opening the exhibition reminded that the modern Serbian state had emerged from two uprisings, and to be defended in numerous wars.-In those most difficult moments in our history there was no other option for survival but to take a rifle in hand. So it is no surprise that the rifle has became a symbol of struggle and freedom in our people’s minds, said General Dikovic pointing out that the Military Museum collections preserved weapons from previous wars and that the territory of Serbia was often the place of armed conflict.
- I hope that many people will visit this exhibition and will enjoy it, and that the Military Museum will become a temple where we will expand our knowledge, the general stated.
In his opening address the Chief of the Military Museum Lieutenant Colonel Dragan Milkovic said that this institution celebrates the National Day by having prepared theme exhibitions presenting a rich and valuable museum material. He added that the museum was a guest with two exhibitions: "Decorations of the Principality and Kingdom of Serbia" at the Synagogue of the National Museum in Nis and the "Serbian military flags from the Balkan and First World War" at the National Museum in Cacak.Large caliber rifles have always attracted greatest attention from the standing exhibition of the Military Museum. In this exhibition visitors can see wall guns from the black powder era, anti-tank guns of World War II and modern sniper rifles. The aim of the exhibition "Large caliber military rifle", open until 11 March, is to present the development of such weapons since the sixteenth century to the present day.
