"Košare – Battle Participants’ Recollections" launched at Belgrade Book Fair

A book titled Košare - Battle Participants’ Recollections was launched at the 69th International Belgrade Book Fair. The book launch was held at the stand of Media Centre “Odbrana”, a publishing house operating under the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Defence.
The initiative to publish the memoirs was supported by the Association of Veterans of Security Authorities and Military Police of Serbia, which recently celebrated its fifth anniversary.

Speaking at the event, Editor Mirjana Sandić said that “the volume includes the personal recollections of 38 members of the 5th Military Police Battalion Battlegroup of the 1st Army”, and that it was dedicated to all the fallen soldiers and combatants involved in the Battle of Košare. According to her, the book reveals the personal and emotional experiences of young men who found themselves on the front line.
Major General Dr Todor Petković (Retd), the book reviewer, also addressed the audience, saying that the book was divided into seven thematic sections. The first part gives a general picture of combat operations in Kosovo and Metohija, while the second focuses on firsthand accounts from those deployed in the Košare region. Petković noted that the book "pays tribute to all the members of the 1st Army Battegroup who laid down their lives defending their homeland, as well as to all military police personnel who defended the Army, the state, and their people."

Colonel Blagoje Ljubisavljević (Retd), Chairman of the Veterans’ Association’s Executive Board and the originator of the book project, presented the Association’s programme to those gathered. He said that the Association was a guardian of traditions upheld by security authorities and that over the past five years, they had focused on “preserving freedom-loving traditions and patriotic values, fostering a culture of remembrance for fallen veterans, providing assistance to their families and vulnerable veteran groups, and participating in humanitarian work."
Sergeant Major Slobodan Radmilović (Retd), one of the book contributors and a veteran of the Battle of Košare, shared his war experiences with the audience. He offered his testimony and recalled the fallen comrades who had laid down their lives for the freedom of their homeland.

The book launch was attended by members of the defence system, representatives of the Association, families of the fallen, and members of the public.
