Minister Gašić inspects new and refurbished facilities, construction works at Niš barracks

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić visited today the Mija Stanimirović and the Stevan Sinđelić barracks in Niš, where he inspected the newly built and refurbished facilities, as well as the buildings whose refurbishment is currently underway.
During the visit, Minister Gašić expressed satisfaction with the completed infrastructure projects, highlighting that the Ministry of Defence was making a huge effort to improve living conditions for recruits and provide them with modern, state-of-the-art facilities. He added that the Ministry was simultaneously building a large number of storage facilities for the cutting-edge combat assets fielded to Serbian Armed Forces units.

He underlined that the Serbian Armed Forces and our service personnel must have adequate facilities to house newly acquired combat systems and confirmed that the Ministry of Defence would continue to invest in and build modern facilities to the highest standards.
-  By completing these storage facilities we have made an important step in upgrading military infrastructure in the Niš garrison. This will not only improve conditions for storing and maintaining our equipment, but will also extend its lifespan. The modernisation of the armed forces must go hand in hand with military infrastructure upgrades. We are, therefore, implementing these two processes simultaneously, as a key priority of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. I am also satisfied with the progress made so far in building soldier accommodation facilities and the fact that everything is on schedule. In addition to numerous previously renovated facilities, this new facility in Niš will soon be completed and ready to receive our soldiers – the Minister of Defence said.
During his tour of the Mija Stanimirović Barracks, Minister Gašić inspected the equipment and the functionality of the garages designed to house combat vehicles. The work on these facilities encompassed infrastructure upgrades including the construction of manoeuvring areas and hardstands, vehicle wash bays, a fire hydrant network, storm drainage, electrical installations, and fire protection systems.

Within the same barracks, the Minister also inspected the ongoing renovation of an accommodation facility for recruits. The work included a complete refurbishment of all interior spaces, façade renovation, replacement of windows, doors, and roofing to boost energy efficiency, and the refurbishment of the dining facility.
At the Stevan Sinđelić Barracks, the Minister of Defence inspected the facilities where capital maintenance works have been completed. The work included the replacement of the roofing structure and outer covering, renovation of the façade and access areas, and the installation of new lightning protection and interior lighting systems, which has significantly improved conditions for housing combat equipment.

During the inspection, the Minister was accompanied by the State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Mile Jelić, the Commander of the Army, Major General Zoran Nasković, the Commander of the Mixed Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Miodrag Mladenović, and the Head of the Infrastructure Department, Lieutenant Colonel Miloš Peruničić.
