Better living conditions for new generations of soldiers – housing facility refurbished at Topčider barracks
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić visited today a renovated housing facility for conscripts at the Topčider barracks in Belgrade.
On this occasion, the Minister of Defence noted that investing in infrastructure means investing in personnel who form the backbone of the Serbian Armed Forces.- This facility at the Topčider barracks has been given a complete makeover. The renovation of housing facilities for our soldiers clearly show that their standard of living is equally important to us as the equipping of the Serbian Armed Forces. We want every soldier to have good living and working conditions, as well as adequate space for relaxation during their military service – said the Minister of Defence, adding that concern for the well-being of uniformed personnel is one the top priorities for the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.
The reconstructed building, built in 1924 as a housing facility for soldiers, has a ground floor, two upper floors and an attic, with a total floor area of approximately 5000 square metres. After its renovation, the building now provides modern living quarters for soldiers, along with accompanying amenities for their work and training.
The renovation included the construction of a new roof structure and classrooms, the installation of air conditioning throughout the building, façade renovation and the replacement of interior joinery, and the installation of new telecommunications, signaling, and mechanical systems, and the complete overhaul of plumbing, drainage and power installations. The works also included the refurbishment of roads surrounding the building.
During the tour, the Minister of Defence was accompanied by the State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Mile Jelić, the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Nikola Matović, the Commander of the Training Command, Brigadier General Dragiša Zlatković, the Commander of the Guard, Colonel Vladimir Vukajlović, and the Head of the Infrastructure Department, Lieutenant Colonel Miloš Peruničić.
