Minister Gašić meets with Minister of Defence and Internal Order of Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić met today with the Minister of Defence and Internal Order of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, Brigadier General Horácio Castro da Trindade de Sousa, who is currently on an official visit to the Republic of Serbia.
The meeting focused on potential avenues for developing defence cooperation and strengthening overall relations between the two countries. The two ministers concluded that bilateral relations remain traditionally strong, built upon a foundation of cooperation established within the Non-Aligned Movement.

Minister Gašić highlighted that Serbia pursues a balanced defence policy and remains committed to advancing and developing defence relations with all countries and international organisations in line with its national interests and foreign policy priorities.
On this occasion, the Minister of Defence expressed Serbia's gratitude for São Tomé and Príncipe’s derecognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, alongside its support for Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He underlined that Serbia remains committed to preserving and upholding international law, peace, and stability, while building relations with other countries based on sovereign equality, the peaceful settlement of disputes, and respect for differences.

Minister de Sousa agreed that the exchange of experiences and enhanced defence cooperation would contribute to strengthening bilateral ties.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Tiosav Janković, the Head of the Defence Technologies Department within the Material Resources Sector, Major General Slavko Rakić, and the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Nikola Matović.
