Training of 101st Fighter Squadron’s technical personnel
Members of the 101st Fighter Squadron, equipped with MiG 29 multirole fighters, are currently undergoing intensive training to prepare for the execution of specific tasks.
The training is designed for both pilots and technical personnel, the latter’s proficiency playing a crucial role in ensuring aircraft airworthiness. The squadron’s qualified aircraft technicians are responsible for preparing aircraft for flight, checking their airworthiness, carrying out maintenance and repairing any faults detected.Sergeant Vuk Kojić, a radio radar technician, highlights that he and his colleagues are responsible for servicing and preparing the units’ aircraft for flight.
— It is very important that technicians carry out their duties responsibly, because their signature determines whether an aircraft can fly or not. Communication between a pilot and a technician is important while the aircraft is on the ground. The mechanic is in constant communication with the pilot who reports what is happening as he is starting the plane. The pre-flight inspection is critical as it determines whether the plane will fly or not – Sergeant Kojić explains, adding that the beauty of his job lies in the fact that he works with the best aircraft that the Serbian Armed Forces have. He further notes that the squadron is looking forward to the arrival of new Rafale aircraft.Yesterday, unit members hosted Andrej Odalović, an eighth-grade pupil of Zmaj Jova Jovanović Elementary School in Voždovac, at the Colonel Pilot Milenko Pavlović military air base in Batajnica. The boy said that his dream of taking photos of fighter aircraft at an airfield had come true.
— This is my first encounter with a MiG 29 and it has surpassed my expectations. It is much bigger, more powerful and stronger than I expected. This is one of the best experiences I’ve had with aviation and I will remember it forever – Andrej explained excitedly, adding that he would like his future career to be connected to aircraft.
